This is an absolutely beautiful high quality ornate sterling vase with metal (tin?)liner measuring 12" high. It weighs 13 ounces without the liner. It is marked sterling and there are marks above that that I can't decipher. There are also 3 other marks that are an oblong, circle &; diamond. It also says 808 and then 12 IN.

Freshly harvested from birch trees in the middle of 200,000 acres of pristine forest in northern Maine. Available in chunks as shown. Chaga Tea should never be boiled. Bring water to a boil, add about an ounce of chunks to 2 Qts. water & steep long & slow over low heat or in crockpot several hours or overnight. This should give repeated batches until water is no longer amber & provides astounding taste & health benefits. So good with Maple syrup or mulling spices. As with any herb you must check with your doctor before use. PRICE IS FOR 2 OUNCES AS SHOWN. Other amounts before use. PRICE IS FOR 2 OUNCES AS SHOWN. Other amounts available.

Chaga now available!

As you may know, we're at the northern end of the Appalachian Trail and about an hour from two Provinces of Canada, all in the shadow of Mt. Katahdin and more than 200,000 acres of some of the most pristine forest in the country. Prime Chaga mushroom country!  Wild birch trees grow in northern climates, north of the 45th parallel where they have to endure challenging weather conditions. It is these nutrients which Chaga draws from and concentrates. Rather than soft like a mushroom, chaga is hard, almost as hard as wood. It is unique, nothing like common mushrooms. In fact, chaga is the most nutritionally dense of all tree growths. Known by the Siberians as the “Gift from God” and the “Mushroom of Immortality,” this vibrant growth has been used by humans to support health for thousands of years. In addition to nature photography we also sell Chaga!

This Katahdin area may be considered a "depressed" area, but treasures like this are priceless!

Our version of "On Golden Pond" is Jerry Pond

With all the cutbacks, we still have a nice little treasure pretty much in the center of town called Jerry Pond.  Here are some snapshots from our visit yesterday.

And on the human side, it's hard for many people to appreciate how cold the water is in Northern Maine, especially this year but.......oh, to be young again! (Quality isn't very good)

Penobscot River Flood of 2011

This will give you some idea of what I mean when I say "the mighty Penobscot River"

See the following pictures and more in a slide show here:
One Ride Home shown on Slidely

These were taken at Harrington Lake and "on the way home" couldn't pass the cribworks on the West Branch of the Penobscot River without stopping.  The river never lets me down!  She always shows me "a different set of clothes" and what mood she's in today!  Any of these can be made into a greeting card made with archival quality paper suitable for framing or photos matted or unmatted from 4x6 to 8x10 sizes for photo only, or matted 5x7 to 11x14.

Recalls of Aflatoxin-Contaminated Dog Food Have Begun

If you feed dry dog food to your pet, please read this article by  Dr. Becker, a veterinarian, who repeats her recommendations to transition to another type of diet and avoid any pet food containing corn o corn products.  After studying many labels here locally, it's almost impossible to find any dry food for dogs or cats not only without corn as the first ingredient, let alone any corn.

I had a dog and a cat who were having pretty severe health problems and both improved almost over night when I stopped dry food.  If you search Dr. Becker's site you will also find other articles on the subject.
